I have also coordinated fundraising events at my school such as Jump Rope For Heart and School Walk For Diabetes. This is the first time I will be participating in an event that directly affects me. I have emailed some of you regarding this and I guess this is an attempt to put out a call to other people who may be browsing this blog to donate to this great cause. My cardiologist called me Tuesday and told me after looking at the recording from the holter monitor I had to wear last Thursday and Friday, I had a series of 6 Ventricular tachycardia and would probably need to have an ICD implanted in my chest. I have an appointment with an electrophysiologist tomorrow and will find out if I will need one. I had an echocardiogram done before actually seeing the doctor. The echo showed that my heart looks better and the blood clot is gone. Also the cardiologist told me that my heart reduced in size by 1cm. I am very pleased about that, since I am trying harder to take care of myself. The doctors are already 90% certain that the reason I got the CHF was because of the virus attacking my heart. The one thing that still concerns him is that my heart is still skipping. They noticed it on the ekg. I had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours and will find out next week what the recording found. Although it wasn't a completely positive visit to the doctor, but overall it was the best news I have received in 3 months.

September 11th - - - What year?

I am truly convinced that our country has become dumber (proper english??) and more ignorant lately. Have we as a society become so preoccupied with ourselves that we can easily forget the year of that fateful day (conspiracy or not)?

Some 30 percent of Americans cannot say in what year the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington took place

Changes

Sorry it has been over a month between entries, but things have been a little turned upside in my life. You will remember that back in May I had not been feeling well and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Well, I was still feeling sluggish, coughing a lot and short of breath when I walked any distance, long or short. I went back to my doctor on June 21 and after going through some respiratory tests, I then had a chest x-ray taken and then an EKG. The doctor noticed that I had an enlarged heart and of course the EKG reading was abnormal. I went to the cardiologist on June 30 and he immediately admitted me to the hospital where I spent a week (8 days) bored out of my mind. I had a Echocardiogram on the 30th and a Cardiac Catheterization on Monday the 3rd. The catheterization they had to go up through my groin.
Basically the doctors think that the bronchitis may have been viral insted of bacterial and attacked my heart. The strange thing is while I was in Germany visiting Dorman, we walked to the Bahnhof to catch the train to Würburg a couple times and then I was coughing and out of breath a little while we were walking. I am now down to 160 lbs and probably will stay at that weight for quite a while, since I have to keep my sodium intake between 2000-2400 miligrams. I also cannot ride the bicycle this summer, which is one of my favorite things to do, or lift anything over ten pounds. The beginning of the school year should be interesting in light of not being able to lift/carry anything heavy.

Anyways, I would like to thank my mother and father for their support and being there at the hospital for me (my mom got there on the 1st and left with me on the 8th and my dad came the 1st and the 3rd so he could be there before my catheterization and after), my brother and nephew Nathan for visiting me on the 1st and use of the portable DVD player, Monique for being there for me as usual and trying to cheer me up, Joel for the daily yahoo updates before I went in to the hospital and for calling to check up on me each night I was there and Dean for calling to find out how I was doing, which a very cool surpise :)

As soon as I find out anything new, I'll try and post it here if I feel comfortable doing so.

P.S. Joel, Melissa and Emily just came to visit this weekend on their way to Williamsburg, VA and Busch Gardens. We visited the Museum of the American Indian and the Museum of Natural History on Saturday, and then the National Zoo on Sunday. I have the pics from the zoo on cd and will put them on my yahoo pics page with a link as soon as I do. Joel has the pics from the museums, if I get those I'll put them up as well.

Free at last, Free at last......

.....thank God All Mighty, I'm free at last!!!

apologies to MLK, Jr.

Today was our last day of school FINALLY. I wanted to have everything done so I didn't have to come in on Monday, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Monday won't be more than a couple hours to pack up and sign out. The end of the year is always a mixed emotion....a sense of relief that that the weight of the end of the year is off your shoulders.....but also sadness when the students who 'graduate', in my case 5th graders, will not be there next year. There always is hugs and for the students who are leaving whether they are going to middle school or moving, tears. For example, today there was this 3rd grade girl who was waiting to be picked up from school. She had tears streaming down her cheeks. I asked her what was wrong, and she said "I don't want to leave this school". She had only been here for her 3rd grade year, but made lots of friends and was going to a different school next year. I felt so bad for her. She really is a great kid.

Well, I'll be relaxing this summer, visiting Joel and Melissa, as well as being a host/tour guide to them when they come to visit next month. Oh, and I'll also be brewing a new batch of homebrew. Monique bought me a beer making kit for my birthday and I already brewed a batch of Oktoberfest beer. the next batch I'll be brewing is this.
Just in time for Joel's and Melissa's visit. :)

Dangers of playing floor hockey

So, this girl in my 2nd grade class is the goalie for her group in hockey. They LOVE to play hockey, btw. The other team scores a goal and this girl reaches in the net to get the ball, and give it to me for the face-off. I walk over to our face-off circle, when someone alerts me that Sophia is stuck. Sophia is the goalie. As she reached into the goal to get the ball, her hair clip (or whatever you call it) gets twisted somehow in the net. She's stuck. Problem is, no she also has some of her hair in twisted in the net as well. She was wearing pig-tails. After spending a few minutes trying to untangle her, i had to cut the net from around the clip, trying not to cut any of her hair. After about 5 minutes or so, I got her free.
Now there is a 3"x3" hole in my net.
The perils of playing goalie, I suppose.

"Mr. Chase, why are you so cute?"

This is the question asked of me by a first grade girl as I was in the hallway monitoring the students as they came in the building at the start of the school day.
After breaking into a smile, I looked down at her and just said..."Because I am." Turns out that I have bronchitis. Anyways, when I went in to get my bp, pulse and temp, they also weighed me and measured my height. Good news: I weigh around 175 lbs. Bad news: My height is 67 1/4"..... 5 freaking feet 7 and 1/4 inches!!!! Did I shrink? Dorman had a grand time teasing me about being the shortest person in our group whenever we went out when I was in Germany, but I am used to his wise ass comments about me being shorter than him. I always thought I was between 5'9" and 5'10". I had some Nurnberger's (bratwurst), a cheeseburger and a steak. Herr Richard truly is a grill-master!
We then drove to Rothenburg (see pics linked to previous post). What a beautiful and amazing city is Rothenburg. Walking along the wall that surrounds the city was cool. There were openings in the wall that the villagers used to shoot arrows through when they were defending Rothenburg in the Medeval times. We walked arund the city and went into some of the buildings. After a bite to eat, we headed back to Kitzingen. Dorman tried to take a nap before we headed to Würburg. We decided tha twe were going to stay up all night, and then around 6:30 a.m. or so, we'd head to Frankfurt. Since he was driving, Dorman didn't drink. I actually was buying hi Coke's all night whenever I went to grab a beer.
We got to Frankfurt around 7:30 or so and ate some breakfast at the McDonald's in the airport. After figuring out where I needed to go for check in, Dorman wanted to get back on the road, so he could get back home and get some sleep. I walked around the airport awhile, trying not to sit down, since I knew I would fall asleep and couldn't miss my flight.
Once on the plane, I nodded off for a little bit, but not long, and decided to watch 'My Cousin Vinny' and 'Fun With Dick & Jane', again nodding off for a few minutes.
I landed in Detroit and after claiming my baggage and then going back through customs/security and re-checking my baggage, boarded a plane back to DC.
Even though it was nice to be back home, I missed Germany. Hell, I still miss it.
Next year I want to go back over the summer, so I can stay for 2 or 3 weeks and we can go to more cities. If I am lucky, I might even be working in Germany in the future. :)

Pics of Rothenburg, Germany

Some are good, a few are sideways, since that's how I turned the camera and I tried to get them to appear upright on the link, but to no avail.
I will post more pics in the near future, but for now, here are a few pics.

Rothenburg

Actually there are two Rothenburg albums on there. Most, if not all places were closed, some bars were open, but no dancing.

We met up with Katja and her friend Danie (from Munich) and went to dinner, where we hada nice German meal. Later we went to the House of 150 Beers and had to suffer throug hthe loud, obnoxious, idiotic Americans at the bar. The waitress told Katja that we could not run a tab, since she was with "Americans". We were all getting annoyed with the screaming idiots, and after a while some drunk German with a St. Patrwick's Day type hat started hitting on Katja. He then extended his hand to shake mine, and said "It could be worse. At least you are not in Iraq." He obviously thought I was military because of my haircut. We got tired of that scene and went to some other bar in Würburg and hung out there a while. I had my first shot of Absynth in Europe. It tasted like the stuff Joel brought back from Italy.
We ended up leaving around 3 am, and heading home. Had to get some rest for our loooooong day on Saturday.

(con't)

Germany (cont'd)

Wednesday: Another rainy day of walking around taking more pics. Later in the evening, I had some Mexican food in Wurzburg and then we headed over to a place called the Escalera, which is a Mexican-type bar. I got a free drink because it was my birthday and ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. We then headed back to Kitzingen to The Loft. Wednesday was my birthday and so Baker and Richard cam out with us. Richard bought me two shots of tequila, which turned out to be three, since Dorman didn't want his shot. We hung at The Loft for a while before heading over to the Alterkeller (sp?) which was a very cramped place that seemed like it was in the basement. After a while we headed out for home and after getting ready for bed, Dean was making some spaghetti so as to not wake up hungry before work. After laying down for a little bit, I decided I wanted to go back out, so I started putting my clothes back on and headed back out to The Loft. I stayed there for a while, talked to a couple people I knew and then headed back to Dean's and crawled back into bed around 6 am.

Thursday: I woke up around 11 am, raining again. Dean was already home and since he had only about 2 hours sleep, he said he was going back to bed, so since it was raining and I was still tired as hell, I also went back to sleep. Got up around 2 0r 3 pm, we got ready and went to Conni's. While there I had my first taste of German pizza, which was very good.
We left Conni's sometime after 7pm and went back to Kitzingen, where we just kinda hung out the rest of the night. I guess we both were too tired to go out again. Watched Gladiator and the some episodes of Fawlty Towers and then headed to bed.

(to be continued)

Germany

Sorry I didn't post anything until now. I am trying to make good use of my time here.
Here's an update on what's been going on:

Saturday we went to Wurzburg and walked around for a few hours, took in the sights and took some pics. Since I had never eaten Thai food, that's what we had for dinner. It wasn't the greatest, and even Dean said he had better at other places. On our way back to the car, we ran into one of the girls that was at The Lab Friday night and Dean filled her in on the events surrounding the night. After driving back to Kitzingen, for an hour or so, we headed back out to the bahnhof to ride back in to Wurzburg. We went to the Tiri Li again, this time it was much more crowded. It was a pretty mellow night, so no shenanigans happened on this time. :)

Sunday we just kinda relaxed, walked around Kitzingen for a bit and to Wurzburg for a little bit, before taking some night pics of Kitz. We originally wanted to go to the cemetary, the one that supposedly has Dracula's grave, but we were too late. I also got to meet the Richard's.

Monday it rained all day, so I decided not to do too much walking around. I went to this place called the E Center, did a little shopping, took some rainy pictures and on my way back through the stadmitte (center of town) I went into the cemetary and got some cool pics. We then went to a Greek restaurant. It was far and away better than the Thai place. I had really never eaten Greek either, besides a gyro, so I definitely enjoyed that meal.

Tuesday I ventured into Wurzburg on my own via Die Bahn, I payed this time, and took some great pics until the disc on the camera became full, which ticked me off, since I was planning on taking some pics of this building called the Residenz. I will be back to take them in the next couple of days though. When I got back to Kitz, the Richard's were going out to eat and invited us to come along. We went to a place outside of Wurzburg called Bonny's Diner. We then went out for some more drinks until about midnight.

Ok, that's about it for now. We will probably go out tonight, so there may be more interesting stories to tell.

I'll post again in a couple days.

What a night!

Dorman and I headed`out to the bahnhof (train station) to catch the 10 o'clock train to Wurzburg. We lucked out and didn't have to pay the 4.60 euro for the trip. :)
We first walked to The House of 150 Beers. They were doing karaoke on a friday night AND were charging a 3.50 cover.
We said "fuck that" and took a cab to The Lab. Shortly after getting there, I met Conni. I realized howshort I really am, since Conni had to leandown to talk in my ear.
We were having a good time at The Lab, until some drunk german ran into Dorman, and Dean shoved him back. Within seconds 4 security guys grab Dean and escort him out. One fucker had him around the neck, cutting off his air flow. They threw him in the parking lot. I hadn't seen this, as i had just came back from the bar with two beers. I'm standing there, watching the people on the dance floor, when two guys came up to me and asked if I was Bob and told me that Dorman had been kicked out. I set my beers on a counter and headed out, unaware of what happened.
Dorman was extremely pissed off, and I was doing my best to settle him down. A nice german guy named Philip, tried to get us back in the club, finding out the story from the bouncers, but to no avail.
We then took a cab to the Tiri Li, which was unusually dead for a friday night. Dorman, Baker and I stayed there for a while and then took a cab back to Kitzingen. The last thing I remember before going to sleep was Dorman getting naked and falling into his bed. I woke up about noon to see Dorman on the phone walking around butt naked. He then tells me there was a towel in the bath tub, which was half full and that the O on his keyboard didn't work. After reminiscing about last night, I tried to read my email, but couldn't because my password contains the letter O. Dean picks up the keyboard, trying to figure out what's wrong, when a half litre of water pours out of the keyboard. He checked to see if it wasn't piss and it certainly wasn't beer. No other water was found in his room or on the desk or near it. It's still a mystery as to how the keyboard got water in it. Later on, Baker text messages Dean and says "Are you and Bob still alive?" :-D

Anyways, I am writing this on his laptop. We are getting ready togo to a cookout and party all over again.
I'll be filling all of you in on the fun each day.

Tschus!!

Willkommen

Well, my bags are packed. It got louder as I walked down the hall. As I stopped outside the apartment of my next door neighbor, being the pervert I am I looked in through the peep-hole, trying to see anything. Of course I couldn't, but I thought what the hell. She was so loud she had to have been in the living room, since the bedrooms are around the corner from the door. I didn't hear a guys voice so either she was taking care of herself or he was very quiet. I resisted the temptation of just knocking on the door to let her know she had been heard. :)

My soulmate

To those who know me and have been kept updated on my life on a semi-daily basis, know that I am smitten, absolutely in love with a woman who at times pushes my limits and tests my resolve. We ain't the perfect couple, nor do we pretend to be. But I miss her tremedously when she is gone.....a part of me is missing.....i love her uncondtionally. I think I always have.
She also understands and knows the trials and tribulations of my life. What I have endured to get "here". She knows what scares me and what I am afraid of. She has seen the scars and knows of the ghosts that haunted me in the past, and for her understanding and tolerance of my fucked up, screwed up head, I LOVE HER.

Her name is Monique. And I love her. She truly is my soulmate. There is a reason I know this. If she wasn't I wouldn't be able to listen to this song, and read the lyrics without being a complete emotional mess:

Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn
Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything?
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

I take a walk outside
I’m surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I’m spinning, oh, I’m spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I’ll ever be...yeah...

Uh huh...uh huh...ooh...
I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star
In somebody else’s sky, but why
Why, why can’t it be, why can’t it be mine

Anyways. Sorry to get emotional and mushy, but this is one of those times when I miss my soulmate.

Foggy Bottom

Foggy Bottom is a neighborhood in DC. Home to the George Washington Colonials.
Also home to the best American brewed beer, IMO. Unfortunately, it seems that Foggy Bottom is shutting down ops. The beer is brewed by The Olde Heurich Brewing Company. The original brewery was founded by Christian Heurich, of Germany, in 1873.
Not only is the brewing operations shutting down, the original home of Christian Heurich, known in the DC area as The Brewmasters' Castle built to resemble the castle's of Heurich's native Bavaria.

People are feverishly trying to save the castle from becoming a hotel or another freaking embassy. I am not trying to solicit donations, but at the very least I hope this helps get the word out and save The Brewmasters' Castle. We in Washington are already losing one tradtion. I am hoping we don't lose one of our wonderful landmarks.

Greatest Hockey Goal I Have Seen In My Lifetime

For those who follow the sport, I'm sure you have seen this amazing goal. My favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals, have a rookie player who simply is tearing up the league. Alexander Ovechkin has 32 goals and 26 assists for 58 points in 44 games. All the hype was about Sidney Crosby, but Crosby's diving, whining and chirping-in-the-officials-ears-every-game act has grown old and now the hockey world is finally seeing the real "Next One." (yes I am a little biased)

Click on the link to view what people around here are calling "The Goal" .

I already have Quicktime on my machine, so you may need it or it might play for you anyways.

ENJOY!

Big Brother is watching......

For those who read George Orwell's book 1984 this should be eeerily familiar.
Bush is taken to task on spying - Members of Congress demanded Friday that President Bush and his administration explain his decision to permit the country's most secretive intelligence agency to spy on American citizens in the United States after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks without first obtaining warrants .

If there ever was a better example how much the Patriot Act is a bullshit front to allow the government unprecendented access to the personal lives of American citizens, this is it. Washington Capitals message boards the other day. I'm going to only copy and paste the above mentioned 'Five Ways' from Nada Mucho .

Nada Mucho presents:
5 Ways to Get More Ass for Less Cash

By Reggie Gilmer, Tokin' Pimp

1) Never go to a club before midnight. That way you won't spend as much money on the club's over-priced drinks. Most bars close at 2 a.m. and an hour or so is more than enough time to find some trim. In addition, by midnight the girls at the club are more likely to have their drink on.

2) Never buy a girl a mixed drink unless there is a special. Beer is almost always cheaper than a mixed drink. So instead of asking a girl what she'd like to drink, always say something like, "I'm going to the bar, would you like a beer?" This forces her to answer "yes" or "no." Very few women will respond with something like, "No, but I'll take a Lemon Drop", especially when they've just met you. Of course, do not offer to buy her a drink until you've talked to her for at least five minutes, otherwise you look like too much of a player. Also keep in mind that most girls come to the club because whatever man they are with is too broke to take them out. It’s never a bad idea to offer to buy a girl a beer.

3) Before you go out on a date, or go out lookin' for some tail, JERK OFF! ** This is important for two reasons. One, men tend to make stupid money decisions when they're horny. And two, if a woman senses you're horny, it's a green light to drain your wallet and move on. Women like men who play hard to get, that's why they marry assholes.

4) Don't waste your money on a fancy ride. A true player can walk to the club and get some ass. If you need a car, get something that can get you from point A to point B but doesn't drain your pocket book too much. Use the money you save to improve your "pimp shack."

5) Invite ladies over to your "pimp shack" for dinner, drinks, and a movie. This is a cheap date with an 80 percent trim guarantee. Serve you're date cheap wine in a nice glass, rent a movie (she picks), and prepare a cheap-ass dinner – cooking impresses the ladies immensely. If your culinary skills ain't up to snuff, just get a bag of fettuccine and a jar of decent sauce. It's as easy as Top Ramen, and if you can't cook that, you don't deserve any trim anyhow. Add a few leaves of lettuce and some fresh tomatoes for a salad and you got it made! She ain't goin' anywhere and you'll probably get laid.

** This is the most important tip. If you take just one idea from this article, this is the one. Clean the pipes!

Note: (Reggie Gilmer is one of our favorite people on the planet. In addition to more articles on the basic theme of "being a playa," Reggie will host parties at Olympia's China Clipper Club beginning next month. As if that's not enough to keep one man busy, he also owns and operates Jasmine's Records & Gifts. - Ed)

The Dalai Lama

Who knew The Dalai Lama was a Washington Nationals fan ? Well, the music teacher volunteered us to sing the song at the assembly on Friday. For those that know me well, I will NEVER embarrass myself in public, especially in front of my students. I was hoping to avoid going up on stage, but the French teacher called me, and as I was hiding out in the hallway, one of the kindergarten teachers pulled me inside the auditorium. Some of the students started to cheer, but as I walked up towards the stage, it got louder and louder. I had never heard an ovation like that before. I have been at assemblies and awards assemblies before, but NOTHING like this. Although I sang very, very, very quietly, I still went up in front of the school and bit the bullet.
Nonetheless, the reaction those kids gave me, is something I will remember always. One of the 5th grade teachers asked me if I ever got that kind of ovation, and like I said, never. Quite frankly, it made my day. :)

The Bush Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service has created a stamp with a picture of
President George W. He celebrated his 100th day today and was named Tai Shan. The link provides The Panda Cam, which I suggest checking out. The little guy sleeps a lot, but is still adoreable beyond belief. Plus to watch his mom, Mei Xiang cuddle him is so amazing. Unfortunately, he will be sent to China after his 2nd birthday, as is the deal the Zoo has with the Chinese. I do plan on going to see him in December, shortly after his first appearance in public.

Here is the article about...

the student I was talking about earlier. The first year the team raised $8,000 and has increased that amount each year for a total of about $43,000 during the past four years.
The family will be back again this year, hoping to top last year's figure. The walk begins at 1 p.m., with registration beginning at noon at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College. The walk will also end at the campus with a "victory celebration."
Robbie's mother, Brigitte O'Brien, will be the team captain and Robbie will be the co-captain.
Robbie will also be the honored "Youth Ambassador for the Walk," and will cut the ribbon to begin the walk. Prior to that, he will give the traditional "mission moment" in which he will give a presentation and describe how he was diagnosed with Type One Juvenile Diabetes, how he is dealing with it and why he is raising money for the organization.
Along with his parents, brothers Peter, 9, Paul, 7, and Johnny, 5, he will be among the 600 to 700 participants (including at least 75 on the ROB Team) who will make the benefit walk through the scenic park, past Civil War cannons, historic landmarks and the famed statue of Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
Last year, $167,825 was raised at the walk to help fund medical research and public education. This year's goal is $225,000.
In addition to participating in the walk, Robbie has organized other fundraisers.
Last year, with the help of teacher Robert Chase, the two conducted a benefit Walk for Diabetes at his then school, Signal Hill Elementary. The entire school participated. This summer, even during the hottest days, he manned a lemonade stand to raise money for the organization. These past few days he has been canvassing his neighborhood, seeking donations. Wal-Mart has contributed $500 to his campaign as part of its "Good Works" program.
According to Brigitte O'Brien, there appears to be nothing wrong with Robbie on the surface and other than taking insulin shots twice a day and watching his diet, he's very healthy.
"He loves to swim and is on the Wellington Swim Team … and is very active at Parkside Middle School," his mother said. He was presented an award in the fifth grade by the Daughters of the American Revolution for his community service. The family has lived in Manassas since 1993.
Brigitte O'Brien said she took Robbie to a doctor after he complained about always being thirsty and having bladder problems. He was diagnosed with diabetes and spent five days in Georgetown University Hospital before coming home and beginning his blood sugar testing and treatment.
"He's been very brave and wants to work very hard to fined a cure," she said.
Linda Rodriguez, who is the marketing manager for the Association and helps organize the Manassas event for the American Diabetes Association, said "the O'Brien family has long been one of the leading supporters of the Association, willing to do anything to help. They are a very fantastic and loving family."
She said the association was founded in 1940 and conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching more than 800 communities. The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
The moving force behind the association's work is a network of more than a million volunteers, including a membership of 430,000 diabetes patients and their families, and a professional society of more than 18,000 physicians, scientists, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and educators.
Robbie was among the top five individuals in the fund-raising walk last year and his ROB Team also ranked in the top five. Both plan to be back in the standings again this year. Prizes are awarded to the top contributors, beginning with a Walk for Diabetes T-shirt for raising $100 or more in the fight against diabetes.

Artcile about one of my former students

On Sunday, October 9, the Manassas Journal Messenger published a nice article about one of my former students and his family. Robbie is a diabetic, and he and his family have dedicated themselves to finding a cure for Diabetes. They have participated in America's Walk for Diabetes the last four years. The O'Brien's are a wonderful family and I still teach two of Robbie's younger brothers. There is a little blurb about me working with Robbie. Kinda cool seeing your name in print like that. :)

Last year our school held a fundraiser, School Walk for Diabetes, and raised over $1000 dollars. It may not seem like a lot, but it was unexpected, since just a month earlier our school raised $9940 for the American Heart Association. Needless to say, that I am very proud of my students and their families for their very generous support of these great causes. A few of you know that girlfriend is a Type 2 diabetic. Having two people that have been a big part of my life, especially the woman I love, the last few years makes my support for the American Diabetes Association a no-brainer.

Pimp Name Generator

Get Your Pimp Name! Our students don't start until after labor day, and us teachers had to be at the school this past week going to meetings, getting rooms set up, going over schedules etc. I think I have everything ready for Tuesday. I just have to do my lesson plans this weekend, organize my class lists and fill out a 'To-Do' list for the first couple days (non-instructional stuff).
I teach in the Prince William County Public School District in Manassas, VA. I will be starting my fourth year at Signal Hill Elementary School. The school is huge with 900 students in pre-k to 5th grade. I will have close to that many students every 6 days. I will not see the pre-k students in my class. I am looking forward to the new school year. We have 11 new teachers and a lot of new students this year. We are even expecting students from Louisianna attending our school. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, alot of people have been brought to the area to live with relatives until things are back to normal there. This first post will contain some basic info about me. I am an elementary school physical education teacher in the metro DC area. I have been teaching for 12 years, all in the same cschool district.
I enjoy bicycle riding. Last year my friend Joel and I rode from my apartment to Mt. Vernon, on the Mt.vernon trail, and back. We figured it was 28 miles altogether. Never ridden that far before in my life. I enjoy playing pick-up games of baseketball and flag football. The sporting events I attend regularly are hockey and baseball. With my Washington Capitals going through a rebuilding/youth movement, it looks like it will be a few years before they will be very good. As a loyal Caps fan, I should be used to it by now. I am a proud Inaugural season ticket holder of the Washington Nationals (My income tax refund came in handy) .

That's about it for now. I will post some pics of me at the Yuengling Brewery, and get some of the other pics inside the brewery where we saw the bottling process and the vats and all. Once school starts, I will be able to post some of the hilarious and not so hilarious things my students do everyday.

Thanks for visiting!
